NextGen4Peace is a PEACEPLUS-funded cross-border peacebuilding initiative led by Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation in partnership with Mediation Northern Ireland. The project is a response to increasing societal division, polarisation and community tensions.

A journey from connection to lasting peace

The project aims to build a new generation of skilled grassroots peacebuilders equipped to strengthen relationships, resolve conflict and promote dialogue across communities throughout Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland.

NextGen4Peace will create and sustain a diverse regional network of community peacebuilders by embedding mediation, dialogue and conflict resolution skills within communities, school bodies and local organisations. It seeks to strengthen trust, increase meaningful cross-community engagement and leave a lasting peacebuilding legacy for future generations.

NextGen4Peace: building bridges, creating change

NextGen4Peace free activities include:

  • A range of short courses in conflict and communication skills
  • Accredited Mediation training
  • Dialogue facilitation and Community mediation processes
  • Cross-community engagement
  • Capacity building for community leaders, schools, parents and local organisations.

The main training opportunity is a 1-day training ‘Introduction to Conflict Resolution and Building Positive Relations’. If you want to go further, we can help you select the right course, so you have increased skills and confidence to handle local conflicts, with added support from an experienced conflict specialist; or even go on to train as a mediator yourself.

Making a difference across borders

Working across Northern Ireland and the border counties of Donegal, Monaghan, Cavan, Leitrim, Sligo, and Louth, NextGen4Peace supports local people to play an active role in building peaceful, inclusive, and cohesive communities. NextGen4Peace creates opportunities for communities to connect, collaborate, and grow together. By strengthening relationships and supporting people to address conflicts in their area, it helps build lasting peace and understanding throughout the region.
